The Upper Room Daily Devotion | ROMANS 4:16-17

Romans 4:16-17 speaks about faith and the promises of God. The passage says, “Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. As it is written: ‘I have made you a father of many nations.’ He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.”

As we read this passage, we are reminded that the promises of God are received through faith, not through our own efforts. We cannot earn God’s favor or His promises, but rather, we receive them as a gift through faith in Jesus Christ.

Verse 17 is particularly powerful because it speaks about the creative power of God. It reminds us that God has the power to give life to the dead and to call into being things that were not. This verse is a reminder that God is always at work in our lives, even in the midst of our struggles and challenges. He has the power to bring new life to our brokenness and to create new opportunities where we see only limitations.

As we reflect on this passage, let us be encouraged to put our faith in Jesus Christ and to trust in the promises of God. Let us also remember that God has the power to bring new life to our situations, and let us trust in His creative power to bring healing and restoration to our lives. And let us live a life of faith, trusting in God’s promises and walking in obedience to His will.
