31 Sinabi naman ni Jesus sa mga Judiong naniniwala sa kanya, “Kung patuloy kayong susunod sa aking turo, kayo nga’y tunay na mga alagad ko. 32 Makikilala ninyo ang katotohanan, at ang katotohanan ang magpapalaya sa inyo.”
33 Sumagot sila, “Kami ay mula sa lahi ni Abraham, at kailanma’y hindi kami naalipin ninuman. Paano mo masasabing palalayain kami?”
34 Sumagot si Jesus, “Pakatandaan ninyo: ang gumagawa ng kasalanan ay alipin ng kasalanan. 35 Ang alipin ay hindi kabilang sa pamilya sa habang panahon, subalit ang anak ay kabilang magpakailanman. 36 Kung ang Anak ang magpalaya sa inyo, kayo nga’y magiging tunay na malaya. 37 Alam kong kayo’y mula sa lahi ni Abraham, gayunma’y pinagsisikapan ninyo akong patayin, sapagkat ayaw ninyong tanggapin ang aking turo. 38 Ang nakita ko sa aking Ama ang siya kong sinasabi sa inyo, at ang narinig ninyo sa inyong ama ang siya namang ginagawa ninyo.”
Sermon Description
1. True Discipleship: Jesus is addressing those who have believed in him, telling them that if they continue to follow his teachings, they are truly his disciples. This emphasizes the importance of not just a one-time belief, but a continual adherence to Jesus’ teachings.
2. Truth and Freedom: Jesus speaks about the relationship between truth and freedom. He states that knowing the truth will bring freedom. This truth likely refers to the truth of Jesus’ message and his identity as the Son of God, which brings spiritual freedom from sin and its consequences.
3. Slavery to Sin: Jesus highlights the concept of slavery to sin. He explains that everyone who sins is enslaved to it. This means that sin holds people captive and prevents them from living in the fullness of God’s intended freedom and relationship with Him.
4. Freedom in Christ: Jesus offers freedom from this slavery to sin. He asserts that if the Son (referring to himself) sets them free, they will be truly free. This indicates that through faith in Jesus and his sacrificial death, people can be liberated from the power and consequences of sin.
5. Identity and Opposition: Jesus acknowledges the Jewish lineage of his audience but points out their opposition to him. Despite being descendants of Abraham, they are seeking to kill him because they reject his teachings and his identity as the Messiah.
6. Spiritual Paternity: Jesus contrasts his own teachings, which come from the Father, with the teachings of their spiritual father, likely referring to either Satan (who deceives and leads people away from God) or their adherence to legalism and tradition over the true message of God.
