Si Yahweh ang Ating Pastol
Awit ni David.
23 Si Yahweh ang aking pastol, hindi ako magkukulang;
2 pinapahimlay niya ako sa luntiang pastulan,
at inaakay niya sa tahimik na batisan.
3 Pinapanumbalik ang aking kalakasan,
at pinapatnubayan niya sa tamang daan,
upang aking parangalan ang kanyang pangalan.
4 Dumaan man ako sa madilim na libis ng kamatayan,
wala akong katatakutan, pagkat ika’y aking kaagapay.
Ang tungkod mo at pamalo, aking gabay at sanggalang.
5 Ipinaghahanda mo ako ng salu-salo,
na nakikita pa nitong mga kalaban ko;
sa aking ulo langis ay ibinubuhos,
sa aking saro, pagpapala’y lubus-lubos.
6 Kabutiha’t pag-ibig mo sa aki’y di magkukulang, siyang makakasama ko habang ako’y nabubuhay;
at magpakailanma’y sa bahay ni Yahweh mananahan.
Sermon Description
1. The Lord as Shepherd (v.1): The Psalm begins with the metaphor of God as a shepherd, and the believer as a sheep. This analogy is used to illustrate the care, guidance, and protection that God provides. David, having been a shepherd himself, uses this metaphor to express his personal relationship with God.
2. God’s Care and Provision (v.2-3, 5): The Psalmist recounts his experiences of God’s care and provision. He speaks of green pastures and still waters, symbolizing peace and rest, and paths of righteousness, indicating guidance in the right ways. The mention of a prepared table and an overflowing cup symbolizes abundant provision.
3. Trust in God’s Protection (v.4): Even in the valley of the shadow of death, the Psalmist expresses trust and fearlessness because of God’s presence and protection, symbolized by the rod and staff.
4. Assurance of God’s Goodness (v.6): The Psalm concludes with the assurance of God’s goodness and mercy, and the hope of dwelling in the house of the Lord forever.
