All In: The Widow’s Faith

Sermon Description

1. Sacrificial Giving
The widow gave all she had, even though it was a small amount. This was a great sacrifice for her, unlike the rich who gave from their surplus. This teaches us that the value of our offering to God isn’t about the amount, but the heart behind it.

2. True Discipleship
The passage illustrates what true discipleship means: being willing to give everything you have, even your livelihood, for the sake of God. It’s not about the size of the gift, but the sacrifice and devotion it represents.

3. Critique of Exploitation
The story can also be seen as a critique of the rich and powerful who exploit the poor. The widow’s offering, which was all she had to live on, contrasts sharply with the scribes condemned by Jesus for devouring widow’s houses. This could be a call to ensure our institutions help the poor, rather than consume their resources.
